As young people with access to wealth, we want to amplify what Black people and communities of color have long said: police officers as a part of the state exist to protect whiteness and wealth at the expense of everyone else, especially Black people.
RG condemns the anti-Black violence embedded throughout police forces and white supremacy culture in the U.S. that led to the murder of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Sean Reed. And as we say their names, we want to acknowledge the ongoing cultural, police, and interpersonal war(s) against Black communities year-round, specifically the ongoing violence and killing of Black trans women.
We join Black organizers in Minneapolis and nationally in calling to defund and dismantle policing and abolish prisons because we know they do not keep us more safe and instead take Black lives.
Let us be firm and protect and defend the communities we love. Resource Generation believes in following the lead of and supporting poor and working-class communities and Black, indigenous, and people of color in order to build power and long-term structural change, for a present and future where Black lives are cherished, safe, and thriving.
