Every day tens of thousands of people languish in jail simply because they cannot afford bail.
In addition to the over $9 billion wasted to incarcerate people who have been convicted of no crime, pre-trial incarceration has catastrophic impacts on families and communities. Black people are over two times more likely to be arrested and once arrested are twice as likely to be caged before trial. Our LGBTQ and gender nonconforming family are targeted and caged at even more alarming rates, and once in jail are significantly more likely to be sexually and physically abused. For more information, visit nationalbailout.org/about.
Resource Generation is building a campaign partnership with the Movement for Black Lives. As part of our campaign work this year, we are asking RG members to not only take action in local chapters in support of this campaign partnership, but also to give money to support M4BL’s organizing. SONG and National Bailout Collective are part of M4BL’s network.
On Thursday, May 9th 8-9pm ET/5-6pm PT, we are hosting a national webinar to learn about the bailout campaign led by Southerners on New Ground and take action together as young folks with access to wealth committed to racial and economic justice!
