Take action for systems change!

At the local and national levels, we engage in issue-based campaigns to win long-term shifts that will benefit all communities and move us towards our mission of wealth, land, and power being shared equitably.

  • Nationally we are partners of the Center for Popular Democracy and the Movement for Black Lives.
  • RG’s local chapters also have local campaign partnerships many of which are with affiliates of those organizations. We follow their leadership on the issues we support and mobilize our base to be a part of winning long-term systemic change and the equitable distribution of wealth, land, and power.
  • Occasionally we’ll mobilize around issues other organizations are leading on that are strategic for us, such as agitating philanthropy or progressive taxation of the wealthy.
  • We believe that relationships and coalitions built across difference, for us at RG specifically across race and class, are the most threatening formations to the status quo.
  • We are guided by our 40 Year Campaign Vision, and Systemic Shifts we believe need to happen to get there.

About Resource Generation’s National Campaign Partners

The Movement for Black Lives and the Center for Popular Democracy

Resource Generation has two national campaign partners, The Movement for Black Lives and the Center for Popular Democracy.  We ask all RG members to give 10% of their overall giving to either of these organizations nationally, or to one of their local members or affiliates.

Why do we ask that the entire RG community give 10% of their overall giving to our partners?

  • We believe that the strategies our campaign partners are pursuing are the right strategies to bring about the world we all need and to move us towards the equitable distribution of land, wealth, and power.
  • Showing up with money is an important way we build trust and relationships with poor and working class-led organizations.  Redistributing $$ is not the only way we do this (we can also be giving our time, skills, leveraging our networks, etc), but it is a crucial one!
  • One way we work towards the equitable distribution of power is by working to limit the decision-making individual wealthy people have around redistribution.  By giving to organizations that RG decided to partner with through an accountable, transparent, and inclusive process (more details below), you are committing to collectivizing your giving and shifting power as part of your redistribution work.

Who is M4BL?

The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) is an organizational ecosystem comprising more than 150 organizations and individuals representing thousands of Black people from across the country with renewed energy, strategy, and purpose to articulate a common vision and agenda: we are centered and rooted in Black communities; in turn, we recognize a shared struggle with all oppressed peoples; and collective liberation will be a product of all of our work. It is our hope that by working together to create and amplify a shared agenda, and by building in solidarity, we can continue to move towards a world in which the full humanity and dignity of all peoples are recognized.

M4BL is a Black-led and facing organization and ecosystem in service of uplifting ALL Black people. We elevate the experiences and leadership of the most marginalized Black people, including, but not limited to, those who are women, queer, trans, femmes, gender nonconforming, Muslim, formerly and currently incarcerated, cash poor and working class, disabled, undocumented, and immigrant. M4BL is a leaderful organization that exists within a diverse ecosystem of committed movement leaders, activists, collectives, and organizations that make decisions collectively about how M4BL’s resources are deployed.

We are growing what’s next for M4BL:

Who is CPD?

The Center for Popular Democracy (CPD) works to create equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy through deep interconnection and interdependence. CPD builds strong, resilient, and accountable people’s institutions led by and representing those most impacted by inequity, particularly BIPOC, immigrant, and working-class communities. Our network includes 48 affiliates spread across 200 cities and 33 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, D.C., representing more than 400,000 people— 70% of CPD affiliates are led by people of color and 70% are led by women.

We envision a world in which everyone can thrive and where people have the power to control the policies, institutions, and structures that define our existence. CPD strengthens our network’s collective capacity to win a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda. To achieve our vision, we’re focusing on several priorities over the next several years:

  • Build a sustainable and growing base
  • Win victories that advance justice, challenge structural racism, economic inequality, and corporate power at the federal, state, and local levels
  • Build power through non-partisan organizing that nurtures civic participation
  • Build sustainable, independent, and resilient infrastructure within our network
  • Contribute to building a deep, powerful movement
  • Strengthen CPD’s ability to meet emergent movement moments

Established in 2012, CPD has emerged as one of the most effective hubs for the development and execution of campaigns focused on reducing racial and economic inequity and expanding opportunity. CPD brings national expertise, capacity, and technical support to our network organizations, who are driving some of the most high-impact campaigns across the country, including raising the minimum wage, winning paid sick leave, reforming unemployment insurance, advancing climate and immigrant justice, expanding access to childcare and healthcare, and more. Since 2014, CPD worked with our affiliates and other partners to win 230 policy victories impacting tens of millions of people across the country. We are led by a diverse staff team, with 61% identifying as BIPOC and 69% as women or nonbinary. As we work to dismantle racial capitalism and other structures of domination, our goal in the coming year is to advance an affirmative agenda at all levels of government and to build momentum and capacity for the long-term transformation we seek.

Why is it important for RG to have national campaign partners and why and how did we choose these two organizations?

In order to achieve our mission, we believe we must be organizing and building power to win systemic (really big) changes. We also believe we must be in relationship with, and follow the leadership of, organizations led by communities most directly impacted by the systems we are trying to change.

Starting in 2015, the National Campaign team of members (and our Campaign Director) led our organization in a process to identify our 40-year Campaign Vision and National Campaign Partners. This process involved many steps and engaged every chapter. Our partnerships with CPD and M4BL were a result of that process.

They were chosen because of alignment with our values and vision, mutual interest on their part in collaboration with RG, and similarly being national organizations with members or affiliates in localities across the country. We believe this combination of attributes lays the groundwork for powerful campaigns locally and nationally.
